The Easter Concert (dum dum daaaaa)
This slight bit of paper represents several hours of hell. I know of no other way to describe it. My daughter is in the choir - thats item number 5 on the programme. There isn't room on one side of an A4 bit of paper for all the items. It goes onto the other side. Up to item no 15. I knew I was in trouble when the first 2 items took 20 mins.
This would not normally be so bad. I could have put up with some of the more interpretive pieces of music (hand clapping - interesting even if I did feel for their hands after), and the even more interpretive notes on the trombones and violins if the seats had been designed with anything like comfort in mind. Or someone had realised that heating at this time of year is optional in a full hall with lots of light. Or that an interval for 10 mins would have been a welcome relief/essential necessity.
I had planned to take headphones but unfortunately couldn't find a well sheltered spot where my daughter couldn't see me. I know, bad planning. I will do better next year. Because of course there will be a next year. Part of being a parent is the horror of sitting through a 2 1/2 hour programme to smile at watching your child perform for 10 minutes. Although I am hoping next year whilst performing she doesn't try to pick a fight with a group of seniors stood behind her. Most entertaining moment of the night though.
