Autumn Crocus

They have taken me by surprise again. I looked for them the day before yesterday and there was no sign of them. This morning they made such a splash of colour I couldn't miss them. Already they are 30cm tall (12in), with the flowers about one third of their height. There are no leaves with the flowers. The leaves come up in spring and after growing vigorously for two or three months they die off.
