Blossoms in DC

There are about 3,750 cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C., with the Jefferson Memorial, inspired by the Roman Pantheon, overlooking the basin. The trees, donated by the Japanese, are about 100 years old now. The Cherry Blossoms Festival, which takes place next weekend, will hold a very special meaning this year...

Each spring, the blossoms attract thousands of tourists who crowd around the basin. It's probably one of the most photographed sceneries in DC (and yes, I was one of the many trudging along the basin today...) and have a few more pictures.

Also, thanks to everyone for your comments on my blip yesterday: I made the spotlight page and feel like a kid at christmas! :)
