Cherry Tree Bark
The Cherry Tree symbolises new beginnings and rebirth. Because of the short lived nature of the blossom and fruit, it may also mean that it is associated with mortality. Samurai warriors are said to have had a cherry tree symbol on their sword hafts for these reasons.
The bark has anti inflammatory and anti spasm properties and is used in proprietary cough medicines even today.
And of course, the Cherry Tree is so esteemed for its beauty as well as its fruit that is has been transplanted all over the world. We are lucky to have inherited this mature specimen in our garden. The bark is as beautiful as its blossom.
Interesting that each time I typed 'cherry' I typed 'cheery' first - that is the effect it has on me, certainly.
