Herman the Friendship Cake

This is Herman - he's a friendship cake. The idea is that you are given a starter culture by a friend, you grow your own dough for about 10 days (feeding Herman), split him into 5, bake part of him and then pass a part of him to four friends.

He's been bubbling away on the worktop for about a week now and has to be stirred (and talked to) regularly. I now need to find four people who have not recently met Herman and are willing to let him ferment in their kitchens for 10 days!

I plan to add grated apple, cinnamon, nuts, cherries and dried fruits to him and then cook him in time for the Easter Egg Bingo at school on Saturday. We play bingo for Easter Egg prizes and eat home made cakes at the same time. The younger secondary school kids enjoy it and the older ones come along in a purely ironic way (their words not mine!.....but still have fun).

Busy day today. Lunchtime walk was too full of talking to take any photos and ended in miserable drizzle.

My other ideas for today had already just been blipped - a dandelion, a furry verbascum leaf and a water droplet on aquilegia - just goes to show that we all think alike!
