Three Countries
Today (Saturday) we bade farewell to James - a £130 taxi ride will get him on the bus route to Narvik where he'll spend Sunday before flying home on Monday. (Good this back-blipping, you can foretell the future), while we head for Gappohytta.
The first 12k is along a lake which makes for fast times, but isn't terribly inspirational, in fact Robert in particular nearly lost the will to live, as he was carrying a bit of a bug, but we nursed him along in the hope that he'd be fine tomorrow - which he was (more future foretelling!).
Our route along the lake took us out of Finland into Sweden then a stretch between lakes where we followed the Swedish / Finnish border until arriving at Treriksroysa, the joining of the three borders between Finland, Norway and Sweden, where today's photo was taken. A trip round the big yellow marker takes you through three countries - as you can see the border crossing guards have it heavily policed.
Into Norway now and another lake but only 3k before we start climbing steeply then gently to Gappohytta. They may be more expensive, but it's good to get back to the DNT huts with all their extras, like plates, spoons and duvets!
