Threadneedle St

The Bank of England. The entity whose big decisions affect every household in Britain. Big salaries to go with the big responsibilities. People who are paid to understand the markets, to see the near and far economic future, to act responsibly and promptly to keep UK-plc financially healthy; to act as effective guardians and regulators.

But what a mess the country is in. Did they do their jobs properly? How will history judge these largely faceless folks? I don't see any of them joining the lists of redundant or being carted off to the Tower.

Smile and wave boys, smile and wave. I suspect that not only do the high street banks think their customers are gullable, I suspect that the Bank of England also think we are gullable and will accept even the most unpleasant of medicines they dish out in the name of restoring economic health.

Hard yards ahead.
