A green lane in the Dales.
These lanes provide access across the farm land to the moors. Nowdays only ramblers and those caring for or killing the red grouse need such access and a track across a field would suffice. But when these lanes were built, they would have been busy with traffic to and from the lead mines. The legacy of that mining activity makes for excellent, safe dog-walking at a time of year when the peewits and curlews are nesting on the moors and the fields are full of lambs.
