This is the west door of the 1832 church ? the first stone church ? in Salem, Eastern Cape.

The people of Salem are proud of their history but rather less comfortable with their recent literary notoriety. You can read about some of the history and more of the novel in the first section of this article (no need to stop reading there!)

Though I have been in SA since Tuesday, I have had very little time to myself and thus not taken many photos. Yesterday was an exception and I not only visited Salem but also walked along the beaches at Port Alfred. Today I am travelling again, but alone this time so I might get some shots along the way.
