A Different Kind Of Life

I am head of a department in a home for mentally retarded young people and one of 'my' young men has some difficulties that we need help dealing with, so we have contacted a neuropsychologists. She is great and has made some good suggestions already, but she needs more knowledge about his past, so I applied for right of access to documents regarding his case.

Today one of the staff from where he 'works' and I went to Copenhagen to look through all the documents. It was sad and disturbing reading about battered child syndrome, suspicion of sexual abuse and parents that should have had help much sooner.

The young man was placed in a loving and caring foster family when he was 6 years old and thanks to them, he has grown up to be a wonderful person.
