Good news

Good news #1

My 11 year old car had its annual Controle Technique (MOT to the Brits) this morning and passed! The examiner who put my car through its paces said it was in great shape for its age. (Much like its owner, really. *cough*) Also, it appears not to need any of the repairs the money-grubbing VW garage people told me were 'urgent.'

Good news #2

Driving home after my car inspection, I noticed this sign at the entrance to our village and stopped to read it. It's an announcement saying that planning permission for the proposal to build 12 - yes, 12! - huge wind turbines in the fields around us has been refused! However, it's early days yet, and I'm sure the developers will appeal the decision. While I very much support alternatives to fossil fuels, I also have mixed feelings about seeing our history-rich countryside defiled by a dozen mega-éoliennes, especially because the electricity they would have generated was not slated for local use, but for export to Holland. Yes, I'm as confused by that as you are.

These and these are some of the fields that would have been lost to the wind turbines.
