The Hit-A-Thon

The girls participated in a Hit-A-Thon for softball today. Both girls were able to hit all 10 balls into the green to get 3 points for each hit. Nice hitting!

Katrina won the 8U division longest hit at 169 feet!!! Wow! She is so proud of herself!

Victoria's godfather came to visit today. We haven't seen him in a year or so. He can't believe how big the kids have gotten! He's got so much energy. The kids love to play with him!

They had a flagpole dedication today as well:

The Significance of our Opening Day Dedication Ceremonies

The Thousand Oaks Girls Softball Association, or more commonly known as TOGSA, was established in 1983 and this year we celebrate our 28th season. Before TOGSA, the league was known as the Thousand Oaks Bobby Sox Softball League and games were played in the Conejo Rec & Park District, as our playing fields were undeveloped at the time.

In June of 1974, tragedy struck the Thousand Oaks community as four young girls were struck and killed by an out of control car as they walked on their way to the Sunset Hills Country Club for an afternoon of swimming. As news of the tragic deaths spread across the Conejo Valley community, the rallying and fundraising efforts began in the name of the fallen girls. All four of the girls were softball players, and as such, the community set out to raise the necessary funds to construct softball fields in their memory. Thanks to the generous efforts of community members, a total of nearly $295,000 in cash, donated materials and manpower was raised that allowed the construction of the four softball fields and obstacle course that now resides adjacent to the Los Cerritos Middle School. Tammy Lee Beauford, Pamela Jean Beauford, Constance Renee Calvet, and Monica Joan Calvet are forever memorialized on the bronze plaque that bears their names on our flagpole, and at the Beauford-Calvet Memorial Fields, our home fields, originally dedicated on April 4, 1982. Their tragic passing and the efforts of the community in the wake of the tragedy, made it possible for TOGSA, Los Cerritos and others to have a place to play softball. So the next time you?re at the field, and especially at our opening re-dedication ceremony, stop by the flagpole and take a moment to honor these young girls. Their memories live on in the laughter and smiles of our daughters.
