What a kick off: we got our real proper duty gear this morning! Name across the butt and everything.

The rest of the day was firefighter survival. We learned a lot of techniques to help ourselves when we get stuck, caught, or trapped inside a burning structure. Hopefully skills I never have to use in reality, but definitely something to keep at the forefront of the brain. We crawled in full gear through a couple of props designed to catch wires on all parts of our SCBA. Then we have to figure out how to disentangle ourselves while blind.

The last task was to find a simulated downed firefighter, which in reality was an SCBA unit with an alarm going off on it. We used our training houses and were again blind: our Training Officers tied the straps in knots, which we disentangled in order to put the kit on correctly. Good day!
