Me 163 and L

In the Air Museum in Nordholz, the site of a Zeppilin Base in WW1 (there were 17 stationed there, none survived the conflict) then a Naval Air Base. Very interesting, it was an Airsea Rescue centre but that has now gone too. In a special exhibition there was this Me 163, a rocket powered fighter to combat the daytime Bomber attacks in WW2. It was a total disaster and killed more pilots in take-off and landing accidents as were shot down by enemy aircraft! ( 184 to 146) It was responsible for only 11 bombers being shot down, so not too good, being posted to this squadron was not a cushy posting!
