Southease Swing Bridge

I've wanted to run a specific route for over a year, out from Lewes along the bank of the Ouse to Southease, over the swing bridge then back along the opposite bank. Last time I tried it, I ran the first half for 40 minutes only to find the bridge closed for renovation, and the promised scaffold bridge for walker and cyclists not functioning, and so had to run back by the same route.

Today, happily, the Grade II listed bridge was open, refreshed and spectacular. It was built in the 1880s and although the swing mechanism remains, it has not been opened since 1967.

According to the web, the body of Virginia Woolf was found at Asham Wharf, on the east bank of the Ouse, to the north of the bridge...
