Colour Field
Bass Rock from the John Muir Way south of North Berwick this evening. I decided to take the train to North Berwick after work and ride the Way home, so this morning I set off on the new mountain bike for Drem, about 10 miles. Unfortunately I got my timing wrong and missed the train by 1 minute, so I cycled all the way to work - 30 miles before my first meeting. Once upon a time I did that every day, but not for nearly a year so it was pretty hard. Anyway I stuck to Plan A and caught the train from Waverley after 6pm. I left North Berwick about 7pm and took the path by the Law. It was a beautiful evening and by the time I reached East Linton as the church clock chimed 8, I'd stopped quite a bit for photos. Finishing the ride through the woods, I was pretty exhausted but here's to more of the same. Without missing the train next time I hope.
Now, a brief note on this photo. Crossing a road between sections of the Way, I saw the Bass Rock keeking over the fields so I detoured to find the view. To get it, I had to stand on top of a huge pile of dung waiting to be spread over the fields. Luckily the warm dry spell means that the surface was dry so it wasn't too bad, and I was minging anyway. I'd have preferred a grassy knoll, but there you go. Dedication, eh?
Oh, and the title. Colour Field painting is one of those big areas of plain colour styles that (guess what) became popular in the 60s. So here's my contribution. Yellow and blue. Do you think it's "related to Post-painterly abstraction, Suprematism, Abstract Expressionism, Hard-edge painting and Lyrical Abstraction"? Or maybe it's just a photie.
The route home along the John Muir Way from North Berwick to Dunbar is mapped at the bottom of ths leaflet.
