a sunny day in fraserburgh - the eastern most tip of scotland - the top right corner of the big bit that sticks out on the right hand side....

we got to go right inside the light of the lighthouse - there's one small-ish bulb, two huge lenses and a rows of refracting glass - and apparently when it's lit you can see it 28 miles away. we stood in the middle while salty sea dog jim turned the lens - a very strange sensation...

...and we heard how fishermen's wives used to carry their husbands piggy back to their fishing boats in the days before waterproof clothes.

days like today make it feel like i have a very pleasant way to earn my living
