Dream Operator - self-portrait with flag
Lewes FC were today relegated from the league they are in. 835 people came to watch the match, which we lost 2-1 at home. Our opponents thereby ensured their own survival.
It had been a blazing hot day. And it had started with such promise. A victory at home would not have been too much to expect, and that would have kept our survival chances alive to the final game of the season. But it was not to be.
The home ground is called The Dripping Pan and it's set in the amphitheatre of the South Downs. This is what it looked like at around 6.00 pm, after the match had finished and most fans had left the ground and gone home.
For me this pic represents our hopes, cast like shadows on the pitch. And the emptiness is the forlorn desolation at the end of the match and facing up to relegation.
Am I overstating the case? Yes. But that's what we're supposed to do on a day like today.
