St George's Day
On a blazing hot St George's Day, the local mayor has put on a traditional mummers play.
This being Lewes however it applies the traditional George and the dragon theme to the story of Gideon Mantell - an amateur palaeontologist who discovered one of the earliest dinosaur fossils and named the creature the Iguanadon.
The play was performed in three locations across the town finishing here in the local brewery yard at Harvey's.
The scene could be one dating back the 19th century as the brewery has been here for well over 150 years and the mummers plays performed for even longer.
I've tried therefore to give this pic a period feel - removing it as far as possible from any 21st century influences.
I like the evocative effect achieved.
I especially like the anachronism of having the video camera filming the proceedings.
Had to publish this without white border since blipfoto suspended my original version. Didn't realise borders not allowed - but quite admire their absolute design strictures. Anyway, black border they impose works quite nicely echoing the black lines of paintwork on Harvey's brewery buildings.
