Carito

About half a century ago, sugar from the Central Hawaiian used to be transported for loading onto cargo boats through this three and three quarters long railroad line by steam-powered trains. With the opening of bigger and more modern piers, this line has been closed and is now used to run caritos used mainly to transport villagers who live nearby. This ingenius mode of transport uses sheer foot-pedal power. They charge 70 pesos one way or about US$1.80.
