Dryas octopetala

Today's the day .................. for the march of the Dryas

This is more evidence of the very early flowering of some plants in the garden - like this Mountain Avens or Dryas octopetala which I blipped last year at the end of July.

It's doing very well actually and each year it seems to have spread even further from the original plant in the middle of the rockery somewhere. This little group must be three feet or more away from any actual soil. They appear to be marching over the paving slabs on a mission to get - well I've no idea where?

How they manage to produce such exquisitely delicate flowers without any noticable access to water and nutrients is a bit of a miracle .............
