Dubrovnik
The forecast was a bit iffy for the days ahead, but Monday was set to be the best day of the week. So after an interesting breakfast time, (in that it was self-service for getting your crockery and laying your table given the inability of the waiter to do so, despite 3 or 4 requests, as well as the food) we were satisfied with the variety of food available to gorge ourselves on and therefore set up for the day, we walked into town, finding the road that we missed yesterday evening, which was a) safer, b) hugged the coastline so was beautiful and c) took the fifteen-twenty minutes that we were promised upon checking in yesterday, (rather than the 30mins along the route we took last night)) we climbed and followed the City Walls around the UNESCO World-Hertitage site, that is the Stari Grad of Dubrovnik. The ascent of the hundreds of steps was rewarded with what can only be described as an attack on the senses. Orange rooftops, blue skies and azure waters; church bells and the general humdrum below; fresh air and warmth; all washed down with a strawberry-flavoured Calippo that I didn't want to end!
Dinner was at a nice little restaurant on the side of the harbour in Lapad that we had walked to, but sitting on the terrace got a bit chilly, so we retired to the warmth of the indoors bit below for a coffee, before taking a magical mystery tour on the No 6 bus that we had hoped would take us within spitting distance of the road that leads to our hotel. We hoped correctly - we just did a tour of Lapad in the process and then missed our stop, because we failed to 'request' it. So we were back at Pile Gate for a few minutes before a No.4 came along and took us to where we needed to be. Home!
