Cedar of Lebanon
Blipped this wonderful tree this afternoon - unfortunately, only with my phone camera, but wasn't carrying the biggun.
There are some wonderful trees around here, all of which must have been planted 70-80 years ago, by somebody with great vision. Thank you to whomever he or she was.
The cones on the Cedar of Lebanon never really drop like other pine trees, they just seem to disintegrate while they are still attached. I suppose this helps the tree distribute it's seeds more widely? If you do happen upon a whole cone, firstly, it won't stay whole for long and secondly, it has a most wonderful smell (of pine obviously).
