Who loves ya, baby?

For non-birdwatchers differentiating between Coots and Moorhens can be tricky, but once you learn that a Coot has a white bill and a Moorhen has a red bill with a yellow tip it's quite straightforward. So who loves this gorgeous wee chick? Why mummy Coot of course! The red bill will turn white - honest.

After Mrs L's trauma of yesterday she needed to recover with some retail therapy, so RCB and I headed off for a tour of three local reserves - Rye Meads, Amwell & King's Meads. We're really lucky to have all these within a ten mile radius.

We had an excellent day's birdwatching, RCB's got a fine Kingfisher to show for his efforts and from the evidence of all the shopping bags, Mrs L had a successful day too.
