Lakenheath Fen
Met a couple of guys yesterday who were going off today to Lakenheath Fen to attempt to see a Golden Oriole. We'd not been there and we did a bit of homework and it seemed like an interesting reserve to explore and a relatively easy journey for us. Part of the homework though suggested that the best time to see an Oriole is in the first three hours of daylight - so that wasn't going to happen as we set out at 9:30.
Today's sightings included Crane, Cuckoo, Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat (photo), Hobby, Marsh Harrier and Garganey so definitely an interesting reserve, but no Golden Oriole we'll just have to make that effort to be there at dawn and with an hour and a half drive - that's going to be a very early start.
