Even soldiers need their lunch

Arrived in Paris around lunchtime and went to the Science and Industrie museum. Had lunch outside on the concourse, where there was much consternation from some of our students about armed military personnel standing around whilst they were eating.

Cultural differences became apparent quickly, and much incredulity that many countries have armed services in plain view as we have unarmed police. It took a lot of explaining that it wasn't because there was a problem, just that it was the way it was in France.

The reason these guys were lurking was in fact that one of them had gone to "Quick" - a burger joint - to get their lunch. I had to snap them as they walked away!

Worth the tiredness and stress to hear genuine awe when seeing the sunrise over the port at Dover and to watch students really trying to communicate, even a basic level, in French, to order their lunch on the first day.
