The long journey

Exploring Clifton....

I was planning to go to the beach today but, of course, the weather turned out to be rubbish when I woke up this morning. So instead, after my morning yoga, I decided to go for a wander around the streets of Clifton village, as recommended by my friend Kate last night. The place is amazing: lots of gorgeous looking Georgian houses populate the little cobbled streets which are full of pretty boutiques, coffee shops and art galleries. I love it! During my walk, I stopped in a lovely bakery for a huge creamy latte and a delicious cinnamon swirl...yum yum! This is the best way to spend a saturday!!!

That in the picture is the Clifton suspension bridge. For those of you who are not familiar with it, here's some interesting facts. Opened in 1864, the bridge goes over the Avon Gorge to link Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it is a distinctive landmark that is used as a symbol of Bristol. It span 241m at a height of 75m above the ground...pretty impressive! I wanted to cross it but I decided to wait till next time since my flatmate was not with me and I tend to freak out sometimes on bridges. I'll provide some blips of the view from it as soon as I find someone willing to cross it with me :).

"I've seen the bridge and the bridge is long
And they built it high and they built it strong
Strong enough to hold the weight of time
Long enough to leave some of us behind

And every one of us has to face that day
Do you cross the bridge or do you fade away
And every one of us that ever came to play
Has to cross the bridge or fade away

Standing on the bridge looking at the waves
Seen so many jump, never seen one saved
On a distant beach your song can die
On a bitter wind, on a cruel tide

And the bridge it shines
Oh cold hard iron
Saying come and risk it all
Or die trying"

The bridge - Elton John
