Overloaded Bee

I watched this bee literally role in the center of a cactus flower at the U today. It rolled around for 5 minutes until it was coated and it's legs were bulging. The ones that patronize the cactus and the yuccas seem to have little sacs on the back legs they fill until they are barely able to fly. I am also amazed at how "shiny" their eyes are given all the little lenses. It was interesting to watch.

The cactus flowers at the U this year are very washed out, not their normal vivid and almost gaudy colors. I wonder why? Maybe it is because they are in an small island in the middle of a parking lot.

I give thanks for the bees that sustain life.
