I don't believe that anybody feels the way I feel
In 2007, the 21st World Scout Jamboree was held. It was also 100 years since the first Scout Camp held on some little island off Essex.
Boy attended that. As part of his involvement with the Troop, we had to host at home (HOHO), two Scouts from Denmark.
Boy and his Dad went down to collect said Scouts, and came home looking very sheepist. Our Scouts were Girls. (Our local Scout Troop has no girls at all).
The girls were shown to their room, and then came downstairs to meet and chat with us, and have something to eat.
As their time with us progressed we got chatting more and more, and how we did laugh when they brought out their "Jamboree Guide". This little book contained all the information they required to help them through an English Jamboree.
Useful phrases like "My sleeping bag is wet, may I share yours", and "let's swap uniforms", or that old favourite "Do you want to see my Knot collection".
Songs for round the camp fire -nice traditional English ones like "California Dreaming", and "Wonderwall".
The girls were funny and giggled a lot, and also stole crayons and colouring in books from Pizza hut while we paid.
They sat on each other's knee and slept in the same bed. They were very close.
it would seem that afterwards, they had been shocked to meet me, the mother of the house, and a sister. When they had been allocated their HOHO family and were directed towards my beloved and my boy - they thought they had been placed with a rather lovely gay couple.
