The perfect couple
A gorgeous gray-sky cool spring day with blasts of sunlight. Went to Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden with two single friends, Alex and Signe, the three of us a little embarrassed among all the couples, young and old, nuzzling in the spring afternoon. I took about 150 pictures: flowers, reflections, colors, people strolling, just-hatched ducklings, geese fighting, gorgeous little eye-fulls. It's a beautifully planned garden, with one perfect postcard picture opportunity after another...but it is the quiet peace of this couple that calls to me most from all those pictures: two geese floating along in different but compatible directions in the same pond. I want love to be like this: two secure and complete beings, entirely at ease with each other, close and yet independent, near enough for easy conversation, bound by purity of affection, by mutual attraction, and by a common will and interest in making life together.
