Shell Ginger

Alpinia zerumbet is the botanical name for the Shell Ginger. It is a plant new to me and we first saw it at the Maui Tropical Plantation and then in many other places in Hawaii where it is common. This naturalized ornamental garden plant is native to Asia. One of the buds is opening and we can begin to see the flower.

The Maui Tropical Plantation is one of the places we saw on a tour of the Best of Maui along with the Iao Valley and the Ocean Center-Hawaiian Aquarium.
