A trip down memory lane
I was having a clear out on my wee computer and getting rid of a lot of those photos you keep and haven't got a clue why they are taking up memory, it has taken ages and I have gazed on photographs of my family growing up, everchanging hairstyles (and hairline in Lord of the Manors case!),celebrations, older relations that are no longer with us, holidays, moment of pride and family history. This is one of those photographs.
This is an image that no longer exists. Auchinstarry Row also known as Auchinstarry village. At one time almost 600 people lived in Auchinstarry, almost exclusively colliers and their families employed in local pits like Nether Croy. Several of my ancestors have worked in the mines around this area from hard grafting miners to demanding pit overseers. Lots of history seeped into the ground in this area.
As I type connections are being made in my mind as I think of my Papa and the Davy lamp that he claimed was named after him :). My Uncle Jimmy a strapping hulk of a man with wild eyebrows and the kindest smile. A pit overseer for many years. Their fathers and their father's fathers were miners in this area to. ....... and all that stands now is a small part of a row, used as an outhouse for a farm.....time ticks on............
Just noticed its my 300th entry!
