Get Back to Me

Say Cheese!

Minx is happy to pose for the camera, but our foal seems a little camera shy.

For those of you that have been following my 'Connections Blips' this is not another clue, but I just couldn't resist this on her first day out in the field. You'll have to wait til tomorrow for the next clue in the confusing world of connections.

Four days old and she is still un-named. It is traditional with racehorses that their names reflect their parents' names and breeding lines.

Most of us humans are hardpressed to trace our own family tree back beyond our great grandparents. Astonishingly all registered throughbred racehorses worldwide can trace their ancestry through their father's line back to one of three stallions: The Darley Arabian (Born 1700), the Byerley Turk (Born 1680) and the Godolphin Arabian (Born 1724) The General Stud book was first published by Wetherbys in 1791 who continue to do so today.

This little girl's father is Lucarno, an American bred stallion, now based in the UK in Shropshire. Her mum is our own Shady Minx, who was home-bred in 1999.

If anyone can come up with a suitable name that combines or reflects Shady Minx and Lucarno, we would love your suggestions. We have 3 years to settle on an official name, but in the meantime we will need to decide on a 'stable name' (nick-name) too.
