Egypt and the Chocolate Factor
Y
(for some reason the title doesn't like the Y)
This is an apparently totally random Egyptian frieze in Beaverhall Road
Edinburgh.
The building used to belong to a chocolate factory - Duncan's of Edinburgh
The company formed in 1861 in Dundee but moved to the premises in
Beaverhall Road in 1896. They got taken over by Rowntrees in the 1940s,
who closed the factory in 1987. Duncan's rose again but moved away in the
1990's. Apparently it is now owned by Wilson's of Kendal.
It appears to be premises for several companies, probably storage
units or somesuch.
I have absolutely no idea what the frieze is all about but it is rather impressive.
