Speke to me.
Today my sister, Folkie Booknerd (see yesterday's blip), took us to visit the wonderful Speke Hall, one of England's finest surviving Tudor buildings.
Construction began in 1530, & the house was slowly added to over the next 50 years, but apart from some slight alterations to the interior layout in the Victorian era, not much has changed since!
In more recent times, however, most of the surrounding estate was sold off, & the house now finds itself cheek-by-jowl with Liverpool airport. This leads to the incongruous sight of jet airliners roaring over the heads of tour guides in 16th Century costume!
