THE LADIES
The end of May Bank Holiday we have always been given the Tuesday off as well. Perhaps because a former employer was too hungover to come in that day and so designated it as a statutory holiday too. But, it is an ideal opportunity to come into the office, in peace and quiet. No 'phone calls, no clients popping in, just a full day to get on and possibly up to date.
Not so when the builders arrive to demolish the toilets and kitchen. I give you .... the ladies toilets.
Also, after enquiring of the demolishing builders, the gents toilet was still functional. Ah, functional as in still there, but they didn't mention that the water had been turned off.
There was then, as I was leaving, the problem with parking, which ended up with me borrowing some traffic cones from the garage next door in the hope of keeping our front door free for the builders; but only in case I did not manage to arrive at work at 5:45am to prevent a certain other person bagging our parking space.
It was only when I arrived home that I realised I had offered to get up early to reserve a parking space (which I would have bagged as my own) for two builders who, when I left work, were happily slurping tea, sitting in the sunshine on the chairs belonging to the shop next door.
I must be mad.
And I won't be going in early.
