The hospital shop

This is the hospital shop at the smaller of the 2 hospitals I work in. It is situated in the middle of the hospital site under a huge and beautiful tamarind tree. It is usually the coolest place in the hospital and has definitely been so these last few weeks as there has been no electricity (and therefore no fans) as the hospital has been 'cut off' as it did not have enough money to pay the bill. It also doubles as the staff room and most of the nurses and doctors and anyone else who's around can be found sitting and chatting or lying in a hammock sleeping here if they are not on the ward. The patients and their families always seem quite cheerful about having to come and get staff from here when professional help is needed. It's possible to buy everything you need for a hospital stay here including beer and a wide variety of very cheap cigarettes!
