Book of Kells
Panic in the school yard this morning (hmm - that could be a Smiths title) for the Inspector had rang at 3.30pm last Friday and announced he would be arriving today and the principal had decided not to tell us in case we worried about it all weekend!!! The other teacher had only arrived back today after maternity leave and went into a flat spin. Chocolate was bought. In the end, the Inspector did call but was remarkably relaxed, parked himself in the staffroom with the coffee and chocolates and assured us that he wouldn't be venturing into the classrooms as he knows what we're like!! A little different from across the water!
I scarpered as soon as I could and headed off to Ballydehob to book a table at the Canteen for Friday night. Ballydehob is a very strange place. As you approach it it looks so pretty nestling into a hill and all the houses are multi-coloured. it used to be the hippy centre of West Cork back in the day (sorry watching too much of The Wire). It's now full of very pretty pubs and rather posh eateries but always seems to be deserted. I think things must be going on behind closed doors. Anyway, this rather amazing mural/graffito/artwork adorns one of the houses. It's based on the famous Book of Kells and takes up a whole two storeys. It's rather well done.
Wild weather again. Today's forecast was heavy showers joining up for prolonged downpours and thunder - worth leaping out of bed for. In the event it's a bit better - strong winds, torrential moments and the odd flash of brightness. Himself has just gone out for a walk and it's now lashing!
