Portrait of Nana #6 - Pharaoh of the Conservatory
The quirkier side of Nana.
She was passionate about history, although like her card-game rules, she often had her own version that slightly differed from the traditional interpretation of events and refused to accept correction.
Here we see a Pharaoh CD rack, her purchase of which amused us all greatly. (She called it Tukka Hayman. We'd say "Do you mean Tutankhamun?" She'd say, "Yes, a-ha, Tukka Hayman". It is huge, and sits in the conservatory looking out on the garden. She was particularly interested in ancient Egypt, Egypt being the one place that she wanted to go but never managed to make the trip. She loved tales of passion, sacrifice, love and jealousy, of deception and woe, of Kings and Queens throughout the ages.
I think that this richly passionate side of my Nana was expressed though her fierce protectiveness of her close family. She cared so deeply for us, and always showed so much love and concern.
I hope that I will carry some of that same spirit.
