Get Back to Me

Today was our annual day out to Royal Ascot.
Tuesday, the first day of the meeting offers the best racing with 3 group one races, and it would look as if it's likely to have been the best day weather wise too.

We had an early start and got to Ascot by 10.30 a.m., time to relax and study form with plenty of champagne, before enjoying a delicious picnic.
We watched the royal procession, and The Queen unveiling a statue of Yeats in the parade ring.
As racing fans, we find it difficult to understand how many people can spend the day in hospitality suites and ignore the action on the course. For us its a routine of looking at the horses in the parade ring, having a bet then rushing to gain a vantage point to watch the race, then we nip to the bar for a jug of pimm's. Repeat x 6

After the last race it is traditional to gather round the bandstand and sing a range of songs, culminating with 'Land of Hope and Glory' 'Jerusalem' and the National Anthem. Then with sore feet we staggered back to the car park for picnic tea.

Without a doubt the highlight of the day was seeing Frankel complete his 7th victory.

We had a wonderful day.

This picture shows my lovely daughter who's appears to be wearing the largest of foliage hats! (The shot was accidental, not posed, and as the tree matched her hat so well it HAD to be my blip!) Just behind her is my older son, R who had just been interviewed by an Australian television crew. Taken while we're waiting for the community singing to commence.

Our party consisted of: Me! My older son R, (pictured) and his wife the fabulous H. My younger son A, My daughter K, (pictured) and her partner, that nice boy S. My brother, N. Lisa the Vet, Greg from the stud and finally my lovely neighbour D, who let us use him as a chauffeur. (As none of the youngsters wanted to drive!!)

Home now, feet aching and heading for bed.
