Happy Birthday to Me!!

I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my 30th birthday . . .

A 4 hour ride through the bush on Horatio the super-horse . . .

a huge lunch cooked by the best chef to EVER come out of Zimbabwe . . .

and then an evening game drive in an open jeep, wrapped up in blankets (South African winter nights can get quite cold).

A family of six elephants were very noisily breaking down and eating some trees on top of some rocks by the side of the road. We watched them for ages just moving around and interacting with each other, before they then beautifully stepped down this red staircase and sauntered across the road in front of us. They came within only a few feet of the car, gently blowing and sniffing at us, and then wandered off into the distance. The five ladies in the car (me included) who had spent a whole week talking and laughing were rendered absolutely speechless . . . quite a moment!!
