Not all of Edinburgh is picture postcard.
After my snap of a man taking a picture of Greyfriar's Bobby I turned my thoughts to parts of Edinburgh you don't see advertised in travel magazines.
Edinburgh has a long history stained with murder and intrigue. From Burke and Hare and Deacon Brodie to the seige of Leith (now part of Edinburgh) by Queen Elizabeth the first's troops. How many of the residents in this modern concrete jungle realise that Mary of Guise had her Royal Court here so many years before. It didn't take the locals long to drop the favour of the Queen. A few years later Mary of Guise's daughter, Mary Queen of Scots arrived here in Leith to find no welcome. She turned and headed to stay at Holyrood Palace where the current Queen still stays on visits to Edinburgh.
