Day 10 - Fuente De / Picos de Europa

PR - PNPE 24: Puertos de Aliva.

A drive back to Fuenta De this morning, and this time we took the cable car to the top station, which is at 926 metres. From here we had a fantastic walk - one hour down through the high limestone mountains to the 'hotel' for refreshments, another hour down through high alpine pastures where we saw cattle (including a big scary bull), sheep, horses, donkeys and a variety of birdlife including griffon vultures. Then there was a further two hours through mostly oak woods, with a climb back up to the bottom cable car station. Weather was pefect, cool at the top, warm further down and a sprinkling of cloud. On the drive back down the valley we stopped at the Hotel Oso for delicious cheese and ham sandwiches and beer. Altogether a wonderful day!
