It is just one week to the shortest day. The sun is rising late, but there is still very little snow on the mountains.

We went for a walk today to a place where there are a lot of fantails. They were very territorial, with each pair flitting close around us as we passed through their territory, until 10 metres or so on we trespassed on the patch of another couple. They were so close, perching on nearby twigs, spreading their tails wide, and actually staying still for seconds at a time. And all this time my camera refused to open! It's still refusing to open.
