Concert For Goboti
Tonight we attended a charity concert in South Leith Church, a beautiful historic building with a fine hammer-beam roof.
The Sing In the City Choir gave an enthusiastic rendering of a variety of music and we all got to join in a couple of songs and lots of hand-clapping.
The concert, run by the Rotary Club of Leith, was in aid of a charity we support, Friends of Goboti, which is a village high in the hills of the Eastern Cape of Africa. Over the last 10 years the Charity has raised funds to help rebuild a Primary School, one classroom at a time; it now has its sights set on building a new classroom block for the Secondary School and a much-needed dispensing clinic. Goboti, in common with many hill villages, had been overlooked by the local authorities; the Charity has met Government officials and in bringing the village to their attention has been able to improve services. All funds raised are passed directly to the village projects and the support given by the Charity gives new hope to the villagers.
