Mac & Cheese Leftovers
Tristan told me right before dinner was put on the table, "I'm not hungry!"
My casual reply, "That's okay, but you are going to sit at the table while we eat our dinner."
His reply, "Oh!" Then he added, "Well, I guess that's okay, but I don't want to eat anything."
I said, "You don't have too!" While I reheated the mac & cheese from last night that I had saved for his lunch today, but he wasn't here to eat lunch since he spent the day with our daughter, his Aunt Dede and Uncle John.
So once our dinner was on the table -- barbecued chicken breast, steamed veggies (onions, Italian squash, broccoli, mushrooms, and cloves of garlic) -- and he realized that I had hot mac & cheese, he wanted some of that. I spooned a mound on his plate and moments later he asked for more and continued that request three or four more times. He also drank several cups of whole milk. Hooray!
Tristan was born 2-weeks after his mom turned 18. Basically he's been raised on chicken nuggets, french fries, and quesadillas.
He left our house this morning with Aunt Dede & Uncle John and went out to breakfast with them. He loved the pancakes, but detests eggs and any bacon or sausage.
I just keep telling myself that will all change by the time he is 18. I am confessing that this is more than sad. So I was pleased that he did eat some mac & cheese again tonight. I diced some of my chicken breast to give to him and told him it was chicken nugget. He didn't want anything to do with it. Mr. Fun said, "Well, think about it. If they removed the fried batter from McNuggets, no child would want them. They aren't selling the chicken; they are selling the batter.
Tomorrow we leave for a week of family camp on Catalina Island, so I haven't stopped moving since I got out of bed this morning--shopping and packing and you know. I've never left anyone in our house when we've gone on vacation, so this week will be a first as our granddaughter Ashly comes to spend the week with the three pups--Chloe, Mitzi, and Max.
So I've not only needed to get myself and Tristan ready for camp, I've also needed to get the house ready and have enough grub here for those 3 pooches. I think Ashly is going to do just fine if she doesn't die from boredom.
I will not be able to connect to the Internet while I am gone. I will take my computer and hopefully find time each day to download my photos from my camera and write my journal each day so that the uploading at the end of the week will go more smoothly.
How many people get to take their 4-year-old great-grandchild to a week of family camp. I'm looking forward to camp. It's late now. I'm super tired. So I'm over and out.
From Southern California, Good Night!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
P.S. If you noticed that his face is dirty -- well, I noticed it too, only I did too late and I wasn't about to mess with him while he was actually eating dinner and not playing with his food. ;-)
