Joshua Tree Burn
There is an other world feeling in the desert here.
Not long ago a fire ran through a Joshua Tree forest north of Yucca Valley near Pioneer Town. The bark and many leaves of the trees as well as the ground shrubbery and grass burned away leaving these almost alive trunks amongst severe desolation.
From Freeman Patterson's book Photography and the Art of Seeing:
Thinking Sideways
Draw up a list of some photographic rules; then go out and break them.
I did this a bit.
I saw a few things that I liked.
Then I photographed the Joshua Tree. I wasn't brave enough to break the rules yet.
