No Rules

Today is a day of rule busting.

I am following the recommendations of Freeman Patterson, in his book Photagrphy and the Art of Seeing:

Think sideways: Draw up a list of some photographic rules; then go out and break them.

Purposefully take photos out of focus, overexposed, underexposed, with motion blur, double exposures, anything you can think of that breaks your rules or concepts of photography.

Collect your rule breaking images and choose some that you like. Ignore the technical quality. Just allow yourself to respond to the image, if you like it, you like it.


Now determine why the image appeals to you.
