Triathlon

This early morning (around 3:30 am), I said goodbye to my hubby as he was off with the high school youth group for a mission trip in Mexico. He was off to build a home for a family in need. We were both really tired from late night Little League visitors to our home trying to get paperwork from Gary before he headed out of the country. Luckily, I knew he would catch up on sleep on the bus. I, on the other hand.......

A couple hours later I met my friend Linda at her house and we were off to join our camping 'triathletes' for their first triathlon...the Tri for Kids event. They camped in the rain with Brian and looked pretty tired just going into the race from not being able to sleep well. With such unusual weather for this time of year, they still went in the cold lake in the rain and started the 50 meter swim (for 10 and under), then transitioned to the 4 mile bike race and then to the 1 mile run. I was so proud of my boy for wanting to participate and finishing with a time of 0:35:39.

I was grateful that Nana and Papa were babysitting Landon, Loren and the puppy so I could devote myself to Liam today during this big event of his! Once it was over, the triathlon club headed over to the campsite for a BBQ. We all brought something to share (mine was bags and bags of fruit) and a couple of yummy salads from Trader Joes for Linda and I. After the race, the participants still wanted to play and went frog hunting, football playing and exploring. I wish I had their energy!

Then Linda and I headed out with the boys to the nearest Starbucks for a much needed coffee. We vegged out there for quite a while and then killed time at a local park. She had a certain time she couldn't go back home due to an open house for her home. Once back in town, I picked up my other kiddos, picked up a Redbox Movie, unloaded the van and then relaxed for what was left of the evening. What a day! I was a little bummed that Gary missed this, but recorded much of the event in photos for him to see once he returns home from Mexico.
