Don't fall on me

I was thinking about today being the shortest day of the year here in the Southern Hemisphere when I spied this cluster of pines on Ilam Rd. They remind me of grave elderly gentlemen gathered in companionable silence, occasionally murmurring but mostly content with shared silence.

I was also thinking about how raw the day feels and how pleased I am to be back on my bike. All of which begs the question, why did I switch from thinking these to things to wondering what it would be like to be standing under tall pines laden with cones in an earthquake?

The earth didn't move so I can't tell you what it's like. I moved on feeling like a gleeful child who just got away with something silly. As if I don't have enough surges of adrenaline in my life ;-)
